A recently released survey identifies a trend in -binge tanning- by young adults just before they depart for summer vacation. It was estimated that 36% of people between the ages of 15 to 24 years received about 5 hours of sun exposure daily over the summer months. Furthermore, one-third of those surveyed purposely selected low SPF sunscreens in order to achieve the desired level of tanning; 19% used no sunscreen and 15% used baby oil in an effort to accelerate the tanning process. The benefits of engaging in sun protective practices at an early age are proven, so encourage your family and friends to reduce their risk of skin cancer and premature aging by slapping on a minimum SPF15 sunscreen and avoiding prolonged sun exposure, especially during the part of the day when UV levels are at their peak. A time-saving and convenient method to incorporate daily sun protection is to find a moisturizer with a built-in sunscreen.
