When you’re pregnant your body increases hormone production and activity, one of the results is that your oil glands can work in overdrive, leaving your face looking shiny and acne can erupt. If you’re prone to acne breakouts or have existing acne, you may experience a worsening of your condition during pregnancy. The additional hormones circulating in your body cause your oil glands to secrete more sebum, which can cause or increase acne flare-ups. To counteract this effect, you should keep a strict cleansing routine – simply look for a gentle over-the counter facial cleanser and use it twice daily. Washing your face more than this can cause your skin to become irritated. Follow with the use of an astringent or toner to remove any remaining oil and impurities not removed by washing, and rehydrate your skin with a non-comedogenic or oil free moisturizer that contains salicylic acid and a vitamin complex. If you’re bothered by their appearance, acne blemishes can be effectively camouflaged with a shear foundation that’s followed by a dusting of light powder to help to absorb oil and remove the shine.
